Yandex Wordstat (Wordstat)

Post by shammis606 »

Wordstat is - "Statistics of impressions of a user-specified word or phrase, as well as queries made by people searching for it. The ability to specify a region or view monthly and weekly sections." (c) Yandex.

What does it mean?
Yandex stores all the information about what people ask on the Internet and anyone can access this information for free using the service https://wordstat.yandex.ru/

For example, we are a company that sells bricks and we usefulness of self employed database are interested in seeing how many people in our region are searching for bricks on the Internet to understand whether it is worth doing this at all.

We open the service (to do this, you need to log in to Yandex or create an account if you don’t have one yet) and first enter the most general phrase “brick”.

Left column wordstat

What does this mean? We see how many people around the world searched for phrases and word combinations using the word “brick” or its derivatives (for example, “brick”) in Yandex. There were 1,921,241 of these queries. Impressive, isn’t it?

And below in the list we see the most popular queries with this word, for example, “buy a brick”, “under a brick”, etc. That is, out of 1,921,241 queries, there were 172,572 queries using not just “brick”, but “buy a brick”.

These numbers are called Basic Frequency and are a fairly general indicator. There are more precise indicators, for example, “exact frequency”.

If we put the word “brick” in quotation marks, we will get other numbers - 18,706. This is an indicator of how many times the phrase “brick” was searched without additions, but in different forms, for example “bricks” or “bricks”.

To exclude word forms, we add an exclamation mark before the word and get the exact frequency indicator. It shows how many times this word was typed in this form.

Right column wordstat
The right column is a hint for you about what queries similar to yours people entered. For example, “brick factory” or “brick house”. This is necessary so that you do not miss those queries that users enter, but you would never think to write it like that :)

Region and seasonality.
The figures we received show data for the last month and all over the world. But we sell bricks in our region, so we are interested to know how many users are looking for bricks only, for example, in the Vologda region.

To do this, under the search bar on the right, we click on “All regions” and select the region we need.
