Increased cooperation between countries

Post by suchona.kani.z »

The European energy crisis is a term used to describe the situation in which the EU is facing an impending energy shortage. This is primarily due to the tensions between Russia and the EU (see Nordstream 1+2), which have resulted to a significant extent in a decline in Russian gas supplies to the EU. Although the war in Ukraine only disrupts the gas supply, the energy crisis also includes the electricity supply. We have explained the background to this connection in our blog post on the topic of the coupling of electricity and gas .

The following table provides an overview of the positive and negative effects resulting from the energy crisis:

Improved energy efficiency
increase in renewable energies
Emerging awareness of using energy more economically and making more sustainable decisions
Negative effects
Significant decline in energy supply as supplies from Russia were severely cut
Significant deterioration of the economic situation in Europe and destabilization of the energy supply system
Increase in energy prices due to supply bottlenecks
Increase in CO2 emissions from coal-fired power generation
Increased number of power outages
To counteract the negative effects of the energy crisis, EU Member States have focused on fundamental measures:

Continuation of the liberalization of the European internal gas market
Closer cooperation between EU member states
measures to improve energy efficiency
relief packages for the population
expansion of renewable energies
Expansion of alternative energy sources – for example hydrogen terminals
reducing dependence on Russian gas
Short-term continued operation of coal and nuclear power plants
Conclusion
We look back on an eventful year in the energy industry. There macedonia consumer email list are few issues that have affected society in Germany and Europe more than climate change and the war in Ukraine. In Germany, politicians are continuing their path of energy transition to achieve climate goals. At the same time, the federal government is easing the burden on the population with rescue packages worth billions in order to counteract the rise in electricity and gas prices. We hope that the ambitious climate goals set for Germany by 2030/2050 will be achieved, contrary to forecasts, and that the hoped-for relief will actually reach private households and industrial companies next year.

Efforts to achieve the EU's climate goals are also evident at the European level. The major EU economies (Italy, France, Spain) have planned comprehensive measures and investments in renewable and alternative energy sources.

We have all felt the effects of the war in Ukraine and its consequences. However, the EU is becoming increasingly determined. One thing is clear: there is still a long way to go before the war in Ukraine and its consequences for the European energy industry are completely ended. This path can only be taken together.

Nevertheless, we remain confident, wish you a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year and will continue to inform you about current topics in the energy industry next year.
