The Q&A visual doesn’t rely on generative AI to process natural language queries. Instead, it uses different linguistic rules to interpret what the user enters and connect it to the data in the Power BI model. This allows it to answer specific questions about the data, but it may have difficulty understanding some expressions that don’t match the model. That’s why Q&A configuration tools have been created that allow authors to define synonyms for columns and tables in the model. This way, authors can indicate the different ways people might refer to their data, and users will always get the right answers when they ask similar questions in the future.
Synonyms are words that refer to the same fields in Power BI. There are two types of synonyms: those that Power BI automatically recognizes and those that the author defines manually.
