What are keywords in SEO?

Post by shukla7789 »

The goal of SEO or web positioning is to get your page to appear in the top positions on Google for one or more keywords that interest you. This inevitably leads to the next question: what are keywords? If you want to know the answer, I recommend that you continue reading.

What are keywords in SEO?
We call a keyword the string of words that the user uses to do a search on Google (or any other search engine).

For example, the other day I wanted to go to the cinema with my girlfriend, and I didn’t know what films were on, so I went to Google and searched: “Madrid cinema Saturday”. After the cinema I always get hungry, so I consulted Google again: “Japanese buffet in Madrid”. Both “Madrid cinema Saturday” and “Japanese buffet in Madrid” are keywords.

The definition may confuse some people, because student database to what logic tells us, a keyword can be made up of more than one term. For example, “what are keywords” is a keyword (this may be the query you made on Google to reach this post).

What are keywords for?
Google uses keywords mainly for two things:

Knowing what the user is searching for.
Know which of the pages you have indexed match what the user is searching for.
A simple way to explain how Google's search algorithm works is this: When a user enters a keyword into the search engine, Google crawls all the pages in its index and selects those where the keyword entered by the user appears. It then ranks those pages according to their relevance.

To estimate this relevance, Google takes into account two parameters related to the keyword:

Density : This is the percentage of times the keyword is repeated within the text. For example, if the keyword appears twice in a 100-word text, its density is 2%.

Prominence: This is a measure of the importance of the keyword on a page. Rather than the number of times it appears on the page, prominence is determined by where it appears. A keyword that appears in the H1 of the page, in the title, in the meta, in the URL, and in the first paragraph is considered very prominent, for example.

The key to using a keyword on a page to help positioning is to achieve good prominence and a high enough density.

Keywords are very important in SEO positioning. The goal of those of us who are dedicated to this is for a website to appear in the first results of Google for certain keywords. This implies two things:

Conduct a keyword study to see which ones to use on your website (If you want to know how to conduct a keyword study, I recommend reading this post: how to conduct a keyword study ).
Optimize content for the words chosen in the analysis.
If you are responsible for a page, you must be clear about which keywords you want to rank it for. This is nothing more than answering the question: how do I want Internet users to find me? However, don't rely entirely on the use of a keyword. Google is giving more importance to the use of variants and synonyms to achieve greater richness in content.
