A rough block of wood should always be at hand for the craftsman. Coniferous species are used, since such wood has natural rosin. Flux is poured onto the wood and a little solder is applied. As soon as scale appears on the tip, it is rubbed against the wood. During this process, the base is cleaned and tinned.
Metal sponge
Method of instant tinning of the soldering iron base. Factory soldering units are equipped with a similar device in the form of a steel sponge in a container.
It is convenient for the master to use such a method, but it can investor data improved. The bottom of the sponge is smeared with flux - soldering fat. If the tip is not immersed deeply, it will simply be cleaned. But if solder is applied to the base and dipped deep, to the base of the sponge, then cleaning will be combined with tinning.
The method is optimal for modern tips with ceramic or nickel coating. Even soldering irons with a thin copper tip can be cleaned and tinned this way. It is difficult to damage the device even with strong pressure.
Uses of Rosin
Method for a traditional tool with a simple copper tip. The metal oxidizes quickly and after 10-15 minutes the solder can no longer be picked up. If you clean it separately from the flux, the master will not have time to bring the soldering iron - oxidation occurs so quickly.
The tool is cleaned in rosin because of this. A file is placed under the soldering iron, you can use steel wire. Then the tip is rubbed until the flux melts. There should be no solder.
The previous methods were invented by craftsmen relatively recently. Our ancestors, even our fathers, did tinning a little differently. This required a file with a fine notch, a workbench for work (can be replaced with a board), rosin and the most refractory solder.
