What I personally find a pity is that by taking MegaUpload.com belarus phone number list offline, two issues have been mixed up. On the one hand, the fight against online censorship and on the other hand, supporting online piracy. A shame, because I think that the fight against censorship on the internet is really very important and can count on a much broader support base than the fight against online piracy.

The end! Right?
The end is not yet in sight. Not only are the protests (whether or not offensive) spreading across different countries, new “enemies” are also emerging. The main candidates are HR 1981 and ACTA (Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement).

Anonymous on ACTA & HR 1981

HR 1981 is an American bill that is officially intended to combat the distribution of child pornography, but in the process also gives the government the opportunity to keep an even closer eye on its citizens online. ACTA, on the other hand, is a truly international event that we also have to deal with here in the EU. The precise consequences of this proposal are still very unclear at this time, but the goal is at least better international protection of copyright. Read more about it here .

Whether actions against ACTA & HR 1981 will also gain such a massive following as SOPA & PIPA remains to be seen. But it does look like online protests will go mainstream in 2012 and #hacktivism could well become the most important buzzword of the year. Especially if the internet revolution manages to spread to the physical world.
