Let's consider what main functions the informer on the site performs and what data can be found out with its help:

Number of unique visitors . Counted when a person visits the site for the first time in 24 hours. Subsequent visits within 24 hours are not counted as unique.

Visits . The number of visits to an Internet resource by a specific user per day.

Total number of visits . In order to understand whether users like your site, you need to look at this indicator. If it is higher than the number of unique visits, people like the resource, and if not, they do not like it.

These are the main indicators common to all existing counters. But modern informers can provide much more useful information that is needed to draw conclusions about the quality of the site.

Let's consider some important points, information about which is provided by modern services. So, you can track the following information:

From which pages a person gets to your site. This information will be useful for finding options for promoting the resource.

Pages to which users leave you. This data will also be useful. For example, if a site visitor leaves you back to the search engine, they probably did not find the answer to their question and went looking further. Information about specific pages of the site from which users leave is also recorded. Having such data, you can make the necessary adjustments to these pages.

Visitor analysis. Some counters are able to show such information about users as their gender, age and region.

Information about visitors' browsers. This point is important for ensuring cross-browser compatibility. This is the property of a website to be displayed and function in all commonly used browsers in the same way. So, having such information, you can correct any errors in the resource's operation.

Information about operating systems. This item is similar to the previous one.

Some of the goals pursued when installing a counter on a website:

Collection and analysis of statistics.

Showing site traffic to users. Sometimes this can increase visitors' trust. But not always.

Help for search engines. Counters rank site data, and search engines take it into account.

Let's figure out whether a website needs a visitor counter or not.

The data collected through the informer can bring you real benefits.

Let's look at some examples:

You run your own information blog. You publish many articles daily, but the site is not very popular, there is no influx of new visitors. It is with the help of the counter data that you can analyze what types of articles are of most interest to the audience, and focus on them.

If suddenly you can’t decide which website design to choose, you can try installing two options one by one, and then the numbers will show everything.

You have made some innovations to the site, and suddenly the conversion rate has dropped or, on the contrary, has increased sharply. Having looked at the statistics on transitions, time spent on pages, it will be easy to establish the reason for the changes.
